Court Moor Year 7 Superstars
At the end of the Christmas term two groups of students were set tasks. A group of year 11 Junior Sports Leaders had to set up and run a successful event to show off the skills they had learnt. They made the decision to run a superstars event for year 7. The year 7s then had the task of competing to become the ultimate superstars.
Each year 7 form was asked to enter a team of six students 3 boys and 3 girls. They had to complete 8 stations, each one requiring different sporting skills from catching and throwing to team work. After each station points were recorded, added up and revealed at the end to crown the overall winner as 7BO. The event was a great success and all teams really enjoyed themselves.
The Junior Sports leaders ran a very successful event with the promise to become great young leaders. All involved had a great time and a big thank you also goes out to our two silver ambassadors Sam Broadey and Nidia Hamid who helped with the scoring and timing.
Court Moor Sports Leaders run Multi-Skills Festival.
Many opportunities have been created for young people to become involved in more sport. Court Moor sports hall saw nearly 100 year 1 and 2 children from the Court Moor and Calthorpe Park Family of Infant Schools taking part in a multi-skills festival, during March. A wide variety of activities were introduced to the 5 and 6 year old children, in order to assist with agility, balance and co-ordination. Target throwing, agility ladders, balance cushions and balloon keep- ups were some of the fun activities used to develop the fundamentals of movement. Congratulations to the year 10 Court Moor Sports Leaders who demonstrated and lead the activities admirably.
Heatherside Juniors excel at Tri-Golf
Congratulations to Heatherside Juniors year 4 children who participated in their first Tri-Golf Festival hosted by Calthorpe Park School. The children played a round of golf consisting of six holes and many bunkers and water hazards which had to be carefully navigated. The nine year olds demonstrated much talent and enthusiasm on the green. Watch out Justin Rose!
Court Moor National Champions assist their peers
Two brothers at Court Moor School have regularly attended and lead Judo sessions for the year 9 boys' Out-of-School-Hours-Club. Austin and Aiden of year 8 and year 10, have been excellent role models and leaders during the spring term after-school club. Year 9 boys regularly practised their co-ordination, power and self-discipline and also learnt some Japanese over the weeks.
Creative Play at Dogmersfield
128 children from Dogmersfield Primary School leapt, spun, flexed and stepped their way through to a wonderful performance based on sports for their Healthy Schools week during March. The children of Dogmersfield enjoyed the Gremlin Dance experience, for two days of workshops and whole school performances, which was funded as part of their Creative Play Big Lottery Funding.
Court Moor students in the dojo with Adrian Dove
Year 7 and 8 students at Court Moor received expert coaching from Judo Club Osaka Instructor Adrian Dove during spring term. Alongside the skills of arm locks, controlled holds and throws, the students were able to learn greater body control, concentration and gain in self confidence. Many Court Moor pupils are planning to keep up the art of Judo having learnt the basic skills and that Judo is a fun and disciplined sport.
Girls Active
Laura Parker is the Court Moor School Girls Active Rep. She is the year 10 student selected to drive forward this exciting innovative initiative. Laura has embraced the new role and is keen to enthuse and encourage as many Court Moor girls to get involved in more sporting activities. She has already established a year 10 Active Team and is busy setting up a School Sports Council and Sports Reps for years 7, 8, 9 and 10. Congratulations to Laura!
Twenty-four Lunchtime Supervisors received valuable training, to kick off the new academic year. The Val Sabin's Positive Playground workshop provided the skills to facilitate more physical activity in an informal situation, to assist in the organisation of the playground environment and to encourage positive behaviour through playground games. Six primary schools in the Court Moor family of schools were well represented, kindly hosted by Heatherside Junior School, Fleet.
October boasted perfect weather for year 6 Tag Rugby Festival for Court Moor family of schools. After five weeks of coaching from London Irish Community Coach Ian Price, the children were keen to put their skills into practise. Paul Hodgson Scrum Half from London Irish was there supporting and giving autographs all afternoon. Kindly hosted by Heatherside Junior School.
Students at Velmead Junior School took part in a 6 week Salsa Course which went down a storm with the students. Children were even caught practising their moves in the playground, much to their embarrassment!!
