SPORTS DAY
Dickens, Austen and Tennyson once again did battle during a very competitive sports day. All the teams competed in a round robin competition involving all of the field events in the morning and then were blessed with lovely weather in the afternoon when taking part in the track events. Every single pupil took part in an event during the day and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. There was lots of cheering and support throughout all the events and even encouragement during the staff race! Everyone is looking forward to making next year’s sports day a similar success.
SKY SPORTS LIVING FOR SPORT VISIT
Tom Davis (Judo Commonwealth Gold Medallist) visited the school to work with a small group of pupils as to how the Olympics in 2012 is a major focus for him and what challenges he has and will face leading up to the Games. Tom led a class based activity where students were asked about their own experiences and how they have overcome challenges in their own lives. Tom then led a Judo and leadership session and was extremely impressed with the skills and techniques of many of our students. Tom then stayed to watch the schools drama performances which he really enjoyed. We all wish Tom the best for the future and hope that he achieves his Olympic dream.
HAMPSHIRE ROSEBOWL
Mr Innes and Mr Creaser took a group of cricket enthusiasts to watch the Hampshire Hawks play a 1 day match against ........... All the boys were extremely excited to watch a live game and were very respectful of the players during play. Some pupils even managed to get autographs during breaks of bowling. Mr Creaser and Mr Innes were extremely proud of the boys behaviour and look forward to more sporting trips in the very near future.
PARALLEL GAMES – ATHLETICS
Samuel Cody this year entered two teams for the parallel games athletic championships. Both Mr Creaser and Mr Innes were very nervous for the teams who had some very strong competitors and a tradition of winning the event in years gone by. Some new stars blossomed during the competition and the future of the athletics team in the parallel games looks very strong. The Blue team of Samuel Cody were declared the winners at the end of the event and proudly accepted the Cup after an excellent day of competition. Well done Samuel Cody!
SOUTH FARNOBOROUGH INFANTS LEADERSHIP DAY
Young leaders from Samuel Cody led an entire day of multi-skill events at South Farnborough Infants organising and running skill stations for all years groups. The pupils had to design, explain and demonstrate each of their stations to small groups and then work with them to assist the children’s progression of skills. The young leaders ended up working with 210 pupils throughout the day and now have a new respect for what their teachers do every school day. The leaders did so well that another leadership day is already planned for next summer. Mr Creaser was extremely proud of the young leaders as they showed their confidence and maturity throughout the day.
ST MARKS YEAR 3 & 4 ORIENTEERING
Samuel Cody recently hosted an intra-school OAA competition for year 3 & 4 pupils from St Marks. Sue Bett (SSP Orienteering Coach) organised the course and arranged maps for pairs of pupils who would then be timed on how long it took them to complete the course. A quick break was then had before the second maps were all completed. The pupils had not previously been to Samuel Cody School but adapted very quickly and stormed around both courses in record time.
OAA A HIT WITH SAMUEL CODY FAMILY
This half term Sue Bett (SSP OAA Coach) has been working with all the schools in the Samuel Cody ‘Family’ raising the profile of orienteering. Sue had carefully mapped each school and designed several different course for pupils to master over a number of weeks. Each school that Sue worked with said that their pupils really enjoyed the experience and are looking forward to the OAA festival that is going to be held on the 21st October at King George V Park.
ST MARKS YEAR 5 & 6 FOOTBALL
Mr Creaser has been working with Years 5 & 6 at St Marks this half term during their PE curriculum time leading sessions of football. The weather was not always hot and dry and so some sessions were held in St Marks hall working on close ball control. On Tuesday 13th October a girls and boys festival was held at Samuel Cody School where the pupils could showcase the skills that they had developed over the sessions. The competition went very well with both boys and girls competitions going down to the last games of the festival. Mr Creaser then presented the winning teams with certificates.
